Bodin after the double backflip: ”It is surreal”

Daniel Bodin from Malung is the first one in the world to do a double backflip on a snowmobile – something he has been preparing himself for the last two years.

The historic event happened on his own training facility ”Redneck Ranch” in Sweden. He managed to make the double backflip 15 metres up in the air with his 200 kilo heavy snowmobile.

”A personal moonlandning”

But it wasn't until a few seconds after the landing that he realised that he had done the dangerous trick – and succeeded.

– I don't know what to say, it's surreal. This is a project I have been working on for two years and the jump doesn't even take four seconds to do. For me, it's like a personal moonlanding, says Daniel Bodin to SVT Nyheter Dalarna.

Broke the code

Before he made the jump, he had to plan a lot. Since no one else has succeeded with the trick before, Daniel felt he had to start from scratch and had to test different techniques along the way – careful preparations had to be made when building the snowmobile, as well as the facility.

– I had to ”break the code” myself and it can't be done in a better way than I did.

Daniels closest friends was also very important during the process.

– Without them it wouldn't have been possible.

The key: ”a damn strong mind”

Why do you think it worked this time?

– Because I have a damn strong mind. It's all about not giving up even when times get rough. The key to success is never doubting yourself, claims Daniel.

How the jump may impact his career in the future, is nothing that Daniel has thought of yet.

– This have been a personal goal to me and my life is all about a sport where it's all about setting goals that you can reach. You have to follow your dreams.

– In this sport you want to see how far you can go and then it's fun to do something that no one else has done before. And when people says it's impossible, I say ”game on”. I like challenges that no one believes in.

Heading for X-games

Right now, Daniel Bodin is on his way to Colorado to compete in X-games. But there might be another record setting jump in the future for Bodin, he claims.

– I've got a lot of ideas, but nothing is decided yet.
