The above photo has been the most shared in social media in Sweden this past weekend. And it was taken in Pajala.

The picture of the aurora borealis, in the shape of a wolf, went viral. From our site alone it's been shared over 32.000 times the past few days.

– It's been called the Norrland wolf, the photographer Marja-Terttu Karlsson says, laughing.

She is, to say the least, surprised that the wolf has been so popular online.

– You can't believe it's true that it's such a success all of a sudden. I saw foreign people sharing it, and I think it's in Japan already.

Some have commented saying the picture has to be fake. But above you can see unedited pictures the aurora before and after the wolf having taken shape.

Doesn’t own Photoshop

Marja-Terttu herself says she doesn't have image editing capabilities on her computer.

– I don't own Photoshop, and I don't have any knowledge about editing. So it's real, she says.

And Marja-Terttu has taken similar pictures in the past.

– A year ago I took a picture of the northern lights in the shape of a northern goshawk. So it's so strange – now the wolf, what's next? A bear perhaps? You never know.
